Fins & Feathers Plantation for Auction

Fins & Feathers Plantation will be heading to the online auction block and David Graham will be looking to see who will continue the endeavor he started.

Graham developed what was once a raw 1,240 acres of paper company land on the South Newport River into an exclusive hunting & fishing retreat. Working with Ronnie Chambers, Graham constructed a hunting lodge, luxury cabins, and an expansive operations center with boats, Jeeps, recreational vehicles, and kennels. Then they focused on habitat improvement, creating an environment where outdoor enthusiasts of all ages could pursue both deer & wildfowl hunting and red fish & tarpon sight fishing.

That value will be determined on auction day, as well as the value of three adjacent properties to Fins & Feathers Plantation. A home on Eagle Neck Air Strip and two parcels (136+ and 156+ acres) of timberland will be offered as separate tracts in individual online auctions.

Leslie Hindman to Auction Antiquarian Library

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers announced an auction featuring over 75 lots of early Italian and Latin literature from the antiquarian book library of John Sisto of Berwyn, Illinois. The books, maps and engravings comprise what remains of the over 3,500 items seized by the Chicago division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in 2007, of which 1,600 items were repatriated to Italy after being deemed unlawfully imported.

The collection had been brought to the attention of the FBI by Mr. Sistos heirs, following his death in 2007. After an extensive review of the materials by the FBI Art Crime Team, the Italian Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage, and the Italian Ministry for Cultural Assets and Archives, who identified the items as having come from the Bari region of Italy, approximately 1,600 items were returned to conferring institutions and private collections in their country of origin. The origin and ownership of the remaining 2,000 recovered items could not be determined and, as such, they were returned to the estate of John Sisto. The majority of these items, which include rare eighteenth-century scientific and theological books, dictionaries and maps, will be offered in a featured session of over 75 lots in the March 16th Fine Books and Manuscripts auction at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers.

The items will be on public exhibition Sunday, March 14th, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Monday, March 16th, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The auction will begin at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 16th.

Art Collection Auctioned at Sotheby’s Amsterdam

Sotheby’s Amsterdam saleroom was filled to overflowing as the company’s offering of the world-renowned BAT ArtVenture Collection, formerly known as The Peter Stuyvesant Collection became the most heavily sale attended in Sotheby’s history in Amsterdam. The sale – Sotheby’s first auction of 2010 in Amsterdam – exceeded all expectations, achieving the remarkable total of €13,590,475 ($18,597,750 / £ 12,263,600), well in excess of pre-sale expectations (Est. €4,364,200-6,276,300). Presale interest had been huge and more than 500 clients had registered to bid in tonight’s sale – either in person, by phone or by leaving absentee bids — and the sale established sell-through rates of 97.5% by lot and 99.6% by value. These notable results further build on the outstanding successes recently established by Sotheby’s in the field of Contemporary Art in New York and London.

Mark Grol, Managing Director of Sotheby’s Amsterdam, said: “Sotheby’s Amsterdam made history this evening with the sale of works from one of the most beloved corporate art collections ever formed. The results achieved tonight represent the highest total ever achieved in the Netherlands for a sale of fine art.”
