A portrait by Australian artist Russell Drysdale has sold for a record $1.89 million at Sotheby’s Important Australian Art sale.
The painting of Rocky McCormack, a farmer, from Riverina, was painted between 1962 and 1963.
The previous record for a Drysdale painting was set earlier this year at $1.68 million.

Notice those one and two word descriptions common throughout the world which can cause problems if a potential bidder searches eBay for ‘hatpins’ while you’ve chosen ‘hat pins’. This means it’s usually best to use both versions for your listing, especially in the title.

‘Boxes’ is a generic term covering trinket boxes, powder and perfume compacts, pill boxes and jewellery boxes, although you’ll find some box types overlap between the vanity collectibles section and other sections, such as vesta cases, usually listed as smoking collectibles, compacts and jewellery boxes, the latter which also have a specialist category in the ‘Jewellery & Watches’ category. On eBay today, under ‘Vanity / Perfume / Grooming’ you’ll even see wooden caskets offered in which to keep your loved one’s ashes - not sure why they made it into the collectibles category but a good price was fetched all the same.

The best thing about running an eBay business based on products such as we look at today, is the sheer volume of collectible types existing under the overall banner of ‘Collectables: Vanity / Perfume / Grooming’ in the UK, and ‘Collectibles: Vanity, Perfume & Shaving’ in the USA. This is collectibles heaven, you’re really spoiled for choice of items to sell, and I don’t think I’ve ever encountered a flea market, auction, or collectors’ sale, short of specialist events, which hasn’t featured vanity items in at least double or triple figure listing numbers.
